MGM Resorts and BetMGM expand responsible gambling efforts
MGM Resorts International and BetMGM have announced an expansion of their responsible gambling initiatives, aiming to enhance research, treatment, and public awareness efforts.
These initiatives include MGM Resorts contributing $180,000 to the Kindbridge Research Institute. These funds will fund research into how sports betting affects players and contribute to the creation of a responsible gaming policy. The research will inform policy that encourages safer gambling and mitigates gambling-related harm.
Additionally, BetMGM is expanding its Kindbridge Behavioural Health referral program nationwide. This expansion ensures that players in BetMGM’s jurisdictions have direct access to specialised mental health services. The program connects individuals experiencing gambling-related harm with professional therapists trained in problem gambling treatment.
Enhancing responsible gaming awareness
are strengthening their responsible gaming messaging through GameSense, a program developed by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC). This initiative aims to educate players about responsible gambling practices and provide them with the tools needed to make informed decisions.
Throughout March, responsible gaming reminders will be prominently displayed across BetMGM’s digital platforms and retail sportsbooks. QR codes will also be integrated into digital and physical locations, directing users to helpful resources on responsible gambling.
To further support players, trained GameSense Advisors will be available at BetMGM Sportsbooks and MGM Rewards desks. These professionals will provide direct assistance to customers who seek guidance on responsible gambling habits. They will also be available to answer questions about self-exclusion programs, deposit limits, and other responsible gaming tools.
Supporting education and research
In addition to public education campaigns, MGM Resorts and BetMGM are committed to education and research to support a lasting impact. The businesses are collaborating with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) to inform law students of the role of responsible gaming in regulatory and industry policy.
This partnership will equip future gambling industry professionals to grasp the ethical and legal requirements of responsible gambling. With changes in regulations concerning online gambling and casino gaming, there is a need for highly educated legal professionals to ensure industry integrity and consumer protection.
MGM Resorts has also pledged $60,000 to State Councils on Problem Gambling to support community-level responsible gaming initiatives. These councils play a crucial role in providing support, resources, and outreach programs to individuals and families affected by problem gambling.
