Ontario online gaming market powers past CA$3.20 billion in 2024-25
Ontario’s regulated iGaming market has once again broken records, reaching CA$3.20 billion (€2.18 billion) in gross gaming revenue for the 2024-25 financial year.
New data from iGaming Ontario confirmed a 32 percent year-on-year rise, with wagers climbing 31 percent to CA$82.7 billion (€56.24 billion). The figures mark the strongest full-year performance since the province opened its regulated market in April 2022.
Casino gaming drives Ontario’s growth
Online casino games delivered the lion’s share of revenue again, accounting for CA$2.40 billion (€1.63 billion). This is a 36 percent increase from the previous year. Betting contributed CA$724 million (€492.32 million), up 23 percent, while peer-to-peer poker held steady at CA$66 million (€44.88 million).
Casino also led on player spending. Wagers on slots, table games and bingo climbed to CA$69.6 billion (€47.29 billion). Betting across sports, esports, and novelty markets reached CA$11.4 billion (€7.74 billion), with poker accounting for CA$1.7 billion (€1.16 billion).
The final quarter of the year, ending March 2025, delivered record-breaking results.
Ontario operators generated CA$903 million (€615.86 million) in revenue and handled CA$22.9 billion (€15.57 billion) in wagers between January and March alone.
Player engagement grows, but unregulated sites remain a concern
According to iGaming Ontario, 1.1 million player accounts were active in March 2025, with average revenue per active account reaching CA$278 (€189.04).

Despite progress, 16.3 percent of players admitted drifting back into the unregulated market during the past three months. This marks a slight increase compared to the figures recorded the previous year. In 2024, only 13.6 percent reported using unlicensed sites. The figures show regulators still face a stubborn challenge in guiding players toward licensed platforms.

Before Ontario launched its competitive framework, an estimated 70 percent of online gambling occurred outside regulation. Although the market has made major strides, efforts to tackle illegal operators continue.
A dynamic market with room for further expansion
The Ontario iGaming sector now hosts 49 licensed operators across 84 gaming sites.
Heidi Reinhart, chair of iGaming Ontario, praised the sector’s progress. “These results show Ontario is home to a truly dynamic iGaming market with a strong roster of operators and a world-class list of games available for players,” she said.
Ontario’s open market model, offering competition among private operators under strict regulation, has been central to its success. In contrast, other provinces like Quebec and British Columbia maintain government monopolies for online gambling. However, the landscape may soon shift, with Alberta now taking steps to regulate online gambling and open its market to private operators,
Ontario rises above rivals in the Canadian iGaming race
Ontario’s iGaming revenue is now several times higher than any other province’s. British Columbia’s iGaming revenue for 2024-25 is projected at around CA$470 million (€320 million), while Alberta remains lower at CA$235 million (€160 million).
Quebec’s total gambling revenue surpassed CA$2.9 billion (€1.97 billion), but that figure includes land-based casinos, gaming halls, and lotteries. Its online sector remains far smaller than Ontario’s thriving open market.
