Super Group eyes Alberta expansion following record Q1 2025

Written by Neha Soni

Super Group Ltd, which owns Betway and Spin, has announced plans to enter Alberta’s upcoming regulated iGaming market. This comes after the company reported a strong start to 2025, posting first-quarter  — a 25 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The company credited the growth to higher sportsbook margins and stable online casino revenue.

As Alberta nears green light for iGaming Act

The company CEO Neal Menashe said the company plans to join Alberta. This comes as Alberta is on the brink of a major shift in its gambling landscape after the Legislature approved , the iGaming Alberta Act, setting the stage for a regulated online gaming market that will welcome private operators to the province. The new bill is projected to launch in early 2026.

The bill recently cleared its last hurdle, that is the third reading, in Alberta’s legislature this week. With royal assent all but guaranteed, Alberta is poised to become the second Canadian province, after Ontario, to open its doors to a competitive iGaming sector. Menashe said the company has already started working on Alberta-specific products and will try to avoid the early problems it faced when launching in Ontario.

Q1 2025 and 2024 figures

Coming back to the strong Q1 2025 results, the company registered a net profit of $59.4 million, rising from $44.6 million in Q1 2024. That previous quarter had included a one-off gain of $43.6 million from the sale of the group’s B2B division. Online casino continued to be the main revenue driver for Super Group, generating $404 million, up 25 percent year-on-year.

Sports betting revenue grew even faster, increasing 34 percent to $106 million. This performance was supported by strong margins and consistent customer activity. Monthly active customers grew 14 percent to 5.3 million during the quarter. The company attributed the rise to effective customer retention and acquisition strategies. Africa and the Middle East remained the largest market for Super Group, contributing $203 million in revenue during the quarter. North America followed closely with $181 million, driven largely by strong results in Canada.

Last year, Super Group reported a total revenue of €1.7 billion for the year, marking an 18 percent increase compared to 2023. In the , Super Group generated €500 million in revenue, a 39 percent rise from the €359.9 million recorded in Q4 2023. This also surpassed the €402.9 million posted in Q3 2024. The company reported a profit before tax of €96.8 million for Q4, a significant recovery from the €35.9 million loss in the same period the previous year.

In February, Atlassian Williams Racing announced a long-term partnership with Super Group Limited. This agreement marked Super Group’s entry into Formula 1. It strengthened its growing presence in global sports sponsorships, including Premier League, La Liga, and the NBA teams.
